We are excited to host a VIM trip to Guinea Bissau, West Africa in January 2013! The trip will primarily visit and help the Youth For Christ school in Bissau.
The team will be working in several different areas depending on interests and capabilities:
1) Teaching - Our English school has hundreds of students each day who would love the chance to practice speaking with a native English speaker or participate in a guided conversation class. We'd love to have anyone who is interested share their testimony or spend time with our students.
2) Medical - The youth center has a simple clinic that treats neighborhood cuts and scrapes. If any medical personnel wish to be part of the trip, there is always an endless line of people interested in help from a trained professional.
3) Sports - The youth center has a multi-sport court that is used for basketball, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Programs run each day. Help is always appreciated!
4) Construction - The big red block machine that was sent to us by the Builders class is ready to go to work helping the church of Guinea Bissau. We'll be looking for a building project that interested team members can be involved in.
5) Workshop - Our metal fabrication workshop is working on a variety of different projects at any given time. We'd love help from anyone knowledgeable in this area to help teach us and develop our skills. The shop is working to develop hand operated machines to help local farmers.
Although final details are still being decided, the trip will likely be about two weeks, spending a week and a half in Guinea Bissau and a day or two relaxing at the beach in Cap Skirring, Senegal. The cost of the trip is TBD.
